Multi-factor authentication (MFA), also known as two-step authentication, gives your Valon online account extra security. When MFA is enabled, at login you'll enter your password as well as a security code that is sent to your cell phone through text message.
This additional layer of security keeps your personal details safe if your email is ever compromised or someone learns or guesses your password.
Should I enable MFA?
We strongly encourage all our homeowners with online accounts to enable MFA, especially those who use a shared computer.
💡 Tip: Keep in mind that, with MFA enabled, you'll have to provide a security code each time you sign in. So make sure to have your cell phone nearby—especially if you're attempting to make a time-sensitive payment.
💡 Tip: If you currently use your Google Account to sign into your Valon account without a password, you can set up MFA on your Google Account instead. You cannot use both Google sign in and Valon MFA with your account at this time.
How do I enable MFA?
Setting up MFA is easy—you just need a cell phone number linked to your account to get started. Simply follow these steps:
- Sign in to your online account and open the Settings page.
- Make sure your preferred cell phone number is listed in the Account section. Add your cell phone number if you don’t see it listed.
- Scroll further down to the Multi-factor Authentication section of your Settings page (beneath Billing) and select Enable MFA.
- Select your phone number from the Enable MFA dialog. For your security, you might need to complete a recaptcha to proceed.
- You'll then be prompted to enter a security code sent to your cell phone. And that's it!
What happens if I didn’t get my security code?
If you didn't get your security code, try waiting a couple of minutes and then attempt to sign in again. If that doesn't work, please contact us at support@valon.com for help accessing your account.
I can no longer access my cell phone or cell phone number. How can I sign in to my account?
For your security, once you've enrolled in MFA, you'll need to enter your security code each time you sign in. If you've lost the phone or phone number you used to sign up for MFA, email us at support@valon.com for assistance. We'll verify your identity and help you access your account.
Can I get my security codes by email or phone call?
At this time, we don't offer security codes for MFA by email or phone call.
Can I link multiple cell phone numbers?
You cannot link multiple cell phone numbers to your own online account. But, if you share your Valon account with another homeowner on the mortgage, they can sign up for their own online account at valon.com/transfer and enable MFA separately.
My cell phone number is changing. What should I do?
If your cell phone number is about to change, we recommend temporarily disabling MFA and removing your old number from your online account. Once you have your new number, you can add it to your account and enable MFA again.
💡 Tip: Removing your old number from your online account will NOT disable MFA automatically, so make sure you also disable MFA!
If your number has already changed, please contact us at support@valon.com for help accessing your online account.
Can you set up MFA for me?
We can't set up MFA for you, but you can reach out to us for help if you have questions!
