If this is your first time being transferred, you might be wondering why you need to update the mortgagee clause on your certificate of insurance. Here's why it's important.
The certificate of insurance is a way to confirm who has a financial interest in your home. An updated mortgagee clause allows us to make sure the right people receive the money owed to them in the event of a loss—if your home is damaged, the clause directs the insurance company to pay the proper party.
Because Valon is your new mortgage servicer, we need to be listed as the mortgagee so that we can receive payments for any property damage. Once we've been paid, we can forward you the funds and you can pay for the cost of any repairs.
Updating the Mortgagee Clause
You can update your mortgagee clause by contacting your insurance agent. Provide your Valon loan number to your agent and ask them to update the mortgagee clause on your certificate of insurance to:
Valon Mortgage, Inc. and its successors and/or assigns
PO Box 29415
Phoenix, AZ 85038
You'll then need to send us your certificate of insurance with the updated mortgagee clause.
Providing the Updated Certificate of Insurance
Once the mortgagee clause has been updated, you or your insurance agent can provide us with your certificate of insurance using any of the methods outlined below. Alternatively, you can provide us with your insurance agent’s contact information and we can reach out to them.
We work with your prior servicer in order to obtain your insurance carrier information and reach out to them to update your mortgagee clause, however, providing us with the above information can help expedite this process.
💡 Tip: We strongly encourage you to send us your updated certificate of insurance within 45 calendar days after your transfer date. Without this:
- We might not receive your insurance payments or important documents like bills and policy updates.
- We might not have the latest policy on file and need to purchase lender-placed insurance for you as a result. Lender-placed insurance often provides less coverage and costs more than other insurance.
You can send an email to valon@ihaveinsurance.com with:
- Your loan number, and
- A PDF of your certificate of insurance or your policy binder
💡 Tip: valon@ihaveinsurance.com is an automated inbox that sends documents directly to our document processing department. You can direct any questions to support@valon.com.
You can mail your updated certificate of insurance or your policy binder to:
Valon Mortgage, Inc.
PO Box 29415
Phoenix, AZ 85038
💡 Tip: Don’t forget—you'll need to include your loan number somewhere in the communication.
