How does it work?
The process is simple and requires very little on your part.
Simply complete Ownwell’s free, three-minute online sign-up, and Ownwell will evaluate your current property tax assessment for errors and exemptions. Next, they'll compare your assessment to the relevant market to see if you've been overassessed. Then, if they think they can save you money, they'll appeal your assessment and request a reduction. During this stage, they may ask you some follow-up questions depending on how the county tax assessor responds. Once the appeal is complete, Ownwell will continue to monitor your property's future assessments.
How is my savings estimate calculated?
Ownwell’s platform looks at the average tax rate for your county and performs a comparative market analysis to provide you with an initial savings estimate. Actual savings will vary depending on a variety of factors about you and your property.
Is there a deadline to sign up?
Yes! You can find your appeal deadline on your assessment notice—but make sure you sign up with Ownwell at least one business day before that deadline. This gives Ownwell enough time to evaluate your information and file an appeal on your behalf.

You’ll pay nothing upfront and there are no hidden fees—Ownwell only charges you if they save you money. For instance, if your property tax bill is reduced from $6,000 to $4,000, Ownwell would charge a percentage of the $2,000 difference.

How often does Ownwell appeal my property tax assessment?
Ownwell will analyze your property tax assessment every year and appeal on your behalf whenever there’s an opportunity to save.
Should I sign up if I have exemptions?
Yes! Ownwell’s local tax experts can find opportunities to reduce your assessment beyond any exemptions you already have in place. And, when calculating your savings, they account for these exemptions—their fee won’t include savings you already receive from your exemptions. Moreover, reducing your assessed value won’t impact your homestead or other exemptions.
How do I sign up?
Visit http://ownwell.com/partners/valon and enter your property address to get started!
Unfortunately, Ownwell cannot accept sign-ups by phone because counties require the property owner’s signature—or, eSignature—to allow Ownwell to file an appeal.
